
This easy and healthy Sri Lankan Dhal curry is a perfect to go with rice and roti. Also you can try it with bread as we do in Sri Lanka.
Here are few tips to make your perfect and easy Dhal curry.
1). Wash the dhal properly at least 3 times.
2). It does not matter whether you use full fat or reduced fat coconut milk. Obviously the full fat coconut milk adds a creamy rich flavour. But health comes first!
3). If you want more gravy add more coconut milk. Especially when you want to have the curry with roti, you may need more gravy.
Ingredients
| Dhal/ Red Lentils | 250g |
| Coconut milk | 100ml |
| Curry powder | 1 and 1/2 teaspoons |
| Chilli powder | 1 teaspoon |
| Turmeric powder | 1 teaspoon |
| Curry Leaves/ Bay leaves | 2 – 3 |
| Onion diced | 1 |
| Green chillies or Red chillies | 3 – 4 |
| Salt | a pinch |
Method
Wash the red lentils properly.
Add water curry powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, curry leaves, onions and green chillies. cook the lentils in medium heat for about 8 – 10 minutes (depends on the cooking appliance)
Once the red lentils are boiled, add the coconut milk and salt. Cook for a further 5 minutes. And your dhal curry is ready.
